Josiah Jamison is a Black trans-femme contemporary realist painter and interdisciplinary artist based in Columbus, Ohio. They earned their MFA in Drawing and Painting from The Ohio State University, where their work explored the intersections of identity, mental health, and desire. Working across painting, drawing, furniture, and installation, Jamison examines how untreated mental health manifests in everyday life—often portraying the unraveling that emerges from unfulfilled or misunderstood longing.

A pivotal work in their practice, You Won’t Be Alone, If I’m Here (2025), marks a shift from interior tension to communal resilience, capturing moments of kinship, contemplation, and survival through richly rendered, naturalistic compositions. Drawing from 19th-century academic traditions, Jamison reimagines historical modes of figuration through a trans-femme lens—infusing their work with intimacy, vulnerability, and quiet defiance.

Their work has been exhibited at Urban Arts Space, Hopkins Gallery, Beeler Gallery, Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, Sean-Christopher Gallery, and the Columbus Museum of Art. As a curator and arts organizer, Jamison has led exhibitions centering marginalized voices, with a particular focus on trans and queer communities of color. They are a recipient of support from the Greater Columbus Arts Council (GCAC), which has helped fund community-centered projects that expand access, visibility, and care for trans-femme artists.
